Reel Life: Writing Solo for the Screen
with Casey Whitaker
Class time: Saturday December 2 [1:00p-4:00p]
Prerequisite: Prior writing experience such as Sketch Level 1 is recommended
In this 3 hour workshop participants will have the opportunity to workshop their original solo characters in an intimate setting as well as create new material. Lead by Second City’s Casey Whitaker, the workshop will cover tips on creating and executing the art of writing for yourself and how to successfully translate those pieces from the stage to on-camera. Each participant will be taped at the workshop for further personal feedback. Don’t miss this one time only workshop thanks to Highwire Comedy!
About the Instructor
Casey Whitaker is a seasoned stand-up, sketch comedy, and improv performer. Hailing from Beavercreek, OH, Whitaker lived in Chicago where she trained with Second City and iO Chicago. She has toured with Second City for the last five years and just finished premiering her first full length play that she wrote and directing as part of the Artist in Residency Series at Saint Mary's College. She also toured Europe last May and performed stand up and taught improv in London, Paris, and Amsterdam. In addition to her work as a performer, Whitaker is a freelance comedy writer for the card game, Utter Nonsense: An Inappropriate Accent Game. You might also catch her on TV in a Big Lots Commercial.
