Improv Level 1: Yes, And... The Fundamentals of Improv

This class is great for beginners. Come make some new friends and laugh together every week!

This class is geared towards adults with little-to-no improv or acting experience. Improvisation is more than just a useful tool for actors, it’s a different way of approaching life. Through fun games and exercises, students will gain more confidence, more creativity, and more playfulness through the basic improv skills of listening, reacting, working with others, and trusting oneself. Not only will it make you more comfortable while thinking on your feet, it’s a delightful way to spend a few hours each week.

Improv Level 2: Intro to Long Form *SOLD OUT*

Learn the same style of improv that launched the careers of some of your favorite comedic actors like Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Key & Peele, Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, and many more.

Session A Class Times:  [Sundays 3:30-6:30] (1/17-3/6) or [Mondays 7:00-10:00] (1/18-3/7)
Prerequisite: Improv Level 1 or above from any improv theater or previous acting experience
                                           Cost: $225//8 WEEKS

 

Learn Long Form Improv from the Best Teachers in Atlanta! You will begin developing the mind of a improvisational comedy actor. Through fun and challenging exercises you'll be guided through the fundamentals of creating an improvised scene from nothing but a single suggestion. 

This class ends with a student performance.

Improv Level 3: Intermediate Scene Study  

Learn to develop the comedy of the scene. 

Session A Class Times: [Sundays 12:00-3:00] (1/17-3/6)
Prerequisite: Improv Level 2
Cost: $225//8 WEEKS

 

This class will explore centering the premise of the scene, establishing strong relationships, building colorful characters, and taking time to find out what makes the scene interesting. 

This class ends with a student performance.

Improv Level 4: Advanced Scene Study

Learn how to nurture the skills needed to create grounded scenes that can sustain themselves for longer than just a few minutes.

Prerequisite: Improv Level 3
Cost: $225//8 WEEKS

 

This class will focus on breaking students out of any habits they may have formed that can hinder grounded, emotionally compelling work, while exploring the small steps students can make to do truly sustainable, dynamic scenes. This is also a great choice for improvisers who’ve done little to no long form improvisations.

Improv Level 5: Master Classes

Highwire offers three variants of our Level 5 class. Students are encouraged to take all three in any order. Currently, only one Level 5 class is offered per session.

Improv Level 5a: The Harold

Session A Class Time:  [Tuesdays 7:00-10:00] (1/19-3/8)
Prerequisite: Improv Level 4
Cost: $225//8 WEEKS

 

This class explores the Harold, the world-renowned Long Form improv format developed by Del Close in 1967. Beyond scenes, we will delve into openings, closings, monologues, transitions, and group games.

Improv Level 5b:  Narrative Long Form

Session A Class Time: NOT OFFERED FOR SESSION A
Prerequisite: Improv Level 4
Cost: $225//8 WEEKS

 

Find out how to apply narrative to any scene or improvised show—without being in your head about it! Learn story structure beyond the basics so that you can recognize and utilize it in your work. You will learn the ins-and-outs of storytelling and apply your new skills to narrative-based improvised plays.

Improv Level 5c: Advanced Long Form Formats

Prerequisite: Improv Level 4
Cost: $225//8 WEEKS

 

Students will learn long-forms developed by directors and improv companies throughout the world. This class goes far beyond the Harold to explore character-based, narrative-based, and style-based formats. This is a great choice for improvisers who want to learn and do more Long Form improvisations.
